Mobius Microsystems’ Founder and CTO Receives Prestigious Award from the University of Illinois
Dr. Michael S. McCorquodale to receive the ECE Young Alumni Achievement Award on September 11th
Sunnyvale, CA, Sept. 8, 2009 – Mobius Microsystems Inc., a semiconductor start-up headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA, today announced that the company’s chief technical
officer and founder, Dr. Michael S. McCorquodale, will be presented the ECE (Electrical and Computer Engineering Department) Young Alumni Achievement Award by the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While an undergraduate there, Dr. McCorquodale was a James Scholar, a member of the Eta Kappa Nu honor society, and
earned the B.S.E.E. degree with honors in 1997. The award ceremony will take place on Friday, September 11th, 2009 at the Illini Union in Urbana, IL.
Alumni Award recipients are selected by the department’s Alumni Board of Directors
during the group’s spring meeting. The Young Alumni Achievement Award is given to
ECE alumni under the age of 40 who have made outstanding professional contributions
in their field since graduating.
Dr. McCorquodale’s pioneering work in precision analog circuits for frequency
generation led to his founding Mobius Microsystems in 2004, and forms the backbone of
the company’s novel frequency generation product portfolio. Under Dr. McCorquodale’s
technical and entrepreneurial leadership, Mobius Microsystems became the first company
to commercialize high precision and high frequency pure CMOS oscillators with
accuracy levels that rival legacy quartz crystal-based frequency generators.
Mobius’ patented CMOS Harmonic Oscillator (CHOTM) technology is a significant
breakthrough in the multi-billion dollar frequency generation market and expands the
total available semiconductor market worldwide. The company’s innovative oscillator
products enable design engineers to create smaller, thinner and lower power consumer
electronic products, and improve reliability by eliminating shock and vibration
sensitivity. In addition to his entrepreneurial success, the award recognizes Dr.
McCorquodale’s academic and community service as well.

furthering semiconductor technology and his ability to commercialize his ideas through
Mobius.”

also ECE Illinois alumni.”
