Design Considerations

Mobius Microsystems’ CMOS Harmonic Oscillator™ (CHO) is a simple, robust and reliable frequency reference for USB 1.0 and 2.0 interface ICs. The MM8201 device is an ideal replacement for commonly used 12, 24, 30 and 48MHz crystals and crystal oscillators. The device enables the designers to simplify system complexity, reduce start-up latency and improve reliability. The devices are built in a reliable, standard CMOS process, and assembled in low profile plastic packages allowing for thinner profile products. Additionally, due to lack of the mechanical resonators which are needed in quartz-based oscillators, CHO devices offer excellent reliability for portable products such as Flash-based USB drives and handheld media players.
